What fun learning about shapes that fit into each other. Students walked around the school to find tessellations on the school. Tiles in the rooms, cladding on the wall, bricks laid along the pathway, students were able to identify many tessellations and make connections with they had learned in the classroom.
The trip to the Qutub Shahi Tombs gave them an opportunity to analyse Islamic architecture and understand the importance of symmetry and tessellations in Islamic art. They were able to make direct connections with the shapes of the tombs, the pointed arches and minars and the fine detailing of Islamic art which is now in ruins with Islamic jali work they had learnt about. They created tessellations to show Islamic jalis.
